Toytoy was a stray street dog, but friendly. She hung out near a compound where one renter used to feed her. the owner, who didn't like dogs, ordered his son to shoot Toytoy with a pellet gun which he did, hitting her in the side and in one eye.

Her eye was so infected that it couldn't be saved and had to be surgically removed.

We helped to find Toytoy a good home where she gave birth to a litter of puppies (no one even knew she was pregnant!) Unfortunately the puppies took too much out of her and she died. At least she was being well cared for at the end of her life. The puppies that survived were all adopted together and are doing well, by the way.

This is a young male chow chow that we found abandoned up the street. He was so weak he could barely even walk; had extremely filthy, matted fur; and many large bare spots due to mange.

My wife started making phone calls for help while I went and got him something to eat and some water. He really scarfed that fried pork adobo down, so I got him a second serving.

We were unable to get help through our local animal rescue group on such short notice so we ended up calling our own vet, who offers shuttle service, to come and get him. I rode along to find out if he was OK. His fur was so matted that it resembled Bob Marley's dredlocks according to the receptionist, so i named the dog Marley.

Here's Marley after just two days at the vet's. He had an infected wound over one eye and a bad case of demodectic mange but was otherwise in surprisingly good health. (Sorry for the blurriness: wrong camera setting!)

This is Marley five days later, doing much better already. His appetite was good, his mangey spots were starting to grow hair, his eyes were bright and clear, and he was looking around and taking an interest in his surroundings.

Here's Marley shortly before he was allowed to leave the vet's, two weeks after admission. He was adopted into a home with three other dogs and his new owner reports that he's gained weight, his fur is all growing back nicely, and he loves playing with the other dogs.
